The game of sports has always been a people’s favorite. Throughout history, sports have been instilled and promoted to spread camaraderie and foster positive relationships amongst a certain populace. With the use of sports, people are provided a worthy outlet for the release of tension and anxiety. As a bonus, players are able to practice their skills and even strengthen bonds between other people. With the coming of the digital age, however, people have found less and less time and opportunities to get out and play a few good games of sports.
With such a dilemma, people’s skills are dulled out. Recognizing such a challenge, players more often than not, resort to discovering various outlets through online gaming. In the world’s first Multiplayer Online Sports Arena game, Arena: Cyber Evolution (ACE) developed by Spearhead Games, players are awarded the exceptional opportunity to engage in an exciting game against other players all over the world. The game is structured and is heavily inspired by physics and allows players to play as super champions in a 3 versus 3 soccer-inspired battle against other players (the game boasts a community 90,000 strong).
Gameplay is generally inspired by the game of soccer and hockey—with a decent mix of popular MOBAs of today—but is a different type of sport in its self. Using simple point-and-click mechanisms, players may control their characters directly. As the game is structured on a social platform and mechanism, teamwork—with a proper dose of strategy-- is heavily recommended and encouraged. As the players begin, they must first select among five cyberpunk heroes in the game.
Once they have selected those heroes, players may simply combine and personalize on their own (through the heroes’ play-style and attributes). Some of the heroes they may choose in their gameplay are Vengeful Star, Stalker, The Nitrogen Queen, Vex Wrecker, and The Negotiator. The Vengeful Star is a jetpack-clad midfielder who can amplify the ball’s velocity and has the ability to move in hyperspeed. Then there is the Stalker who is a cyber ninja who has the power to blink and transport from one location to another. The Vex Wrecker, on the other hand, is a flying biker who has the ability to fire long range missiles and boost movement speed in an instant. Then there is the Negotiator which is a robotic goalie blessed with the ability to teleport instantly.
Just like in real-life sport scenarios, players are given different types of challenges. These challenges come in the form of diverse changes in the arena – like sudden earthquakes, gravity alterations, black holes, arena rifts and a whole lot more. The choice of the challenges that will be presented to the player shall depend on the viewing audience.
